I have an M.Sc. in measurement technology which has provided me with a solid basis for handling patent applications in various field. Accordingly, my tasks are very versatile. I mainly prosecute inventions related to programs, measurements, automation, mobile services, electricity, mechanics and industrial processes.
It is very rare that someone ends up in the IPR business by design. After having worked as a research scientist I found myself by chance working as an examiner at the European Patent Office in Munich in 2003. The IPR world sucked me in immediately. Who could resist the fascinating combination of technology and law? I switched to patent attorney work in 2012 and have been working thereafter both at an agency and in industry.
The most interesting aspect of patent attorney work – and often the most important one as well – is defending and enforcing the patents of the client. Opposition, appeals, contract negotiations and litigation require an ability for convincing arguments both orally and in writing in order to achieve a result in the best interests of the client. My comprehensive experience both in dispute and negotiation is advantageous in these situations.
